David Baas OG Michigan 65 320
You wont find a better interior lineman in college football than David Baas. He moved into the starting lineup as a sophomore and earned 1st team All Big 10 that season. As a junior he was even better, earning All American honors as a left guard. He took another step up as a senior, this time moving over to the center position. He was named to various All American teams, was the Rimington Trophy winner, and was named the Big 10 Offensive Lineman of the Year.
Baas is everything you look for in an interior lineman. He has that attitude that you wish every lineman played with. Hes big, strong, and will battle until the whistle blows. He can dominate in the running game with his run blocking ability. He displays the quickness in a short area to easily open lanes and keep defenders from penetrating. Perhaps most important of all, is that Baas has extensive experience at guard at center. He brings versatility inside and can play multiple roles for whoever drafts him.
David Baas is as good a guard prospect you can find. If he had more athleticism, he would probably be looking at a Top 15 selection. But, athleticism in a guard is not the most important factor, and Baas has everything else. I think he has a very bright NFL future, and should hear his name called between picks 25 and 40 come April.
