Pat White WR/ATH 61 192 West Virginia

By: Robert Davis

Pat White was drafted by the Angels out of high school in the fourth round but chose to attend WVU instead. He redshirted his first season but had a very good freshman season a year later. In 2005, he completed 57% of his passes for 828 yards and an 8/5 TD to INT ratio. White added 952 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. As a sophomore, White earned Big East Offensive Player of the Year honors after throwing for 1,655 yards and 13 touchdowns(with seven INT),while completing just under 66% of his passes. He ran for another 1,219 yards and 18 touchdowns in addition to his production as a passer. Last year, White improved his numbers yet again, rushing for 1,335 yards and 14 touchdowns, to go with 1,724 yards through the air. He completed 66% of his passes for 14 touchdowns and four picks.

Strengths

White is a fantastic athlete that is very dangerous with the ball in his hands. He is elusive in the open field, and has the speed to run away from defenders when being chased. His talents are suited for the receiver position moreso than the QB spot he plays in college. His frame and athleticism are ideal for WR, and he has shown that he is electric as a ball carrier.

Weaknesses

Changing positions at the NFL level is very difficult. College starts at the WR position find it difficult to adjust to the talent in the league, so a college start at QB trying to make it at WR is even more difficult. White has the natural talent and running instincts, but he has a long battle ahead of him to develop into a weapon as a receiver.

Future

White is all athlete at this point, and he will have to prove he can make the switch to receiver in workouts. His draft stock will be determined solely in the post season. Teams know what he can do with the ball in his hands, but he will need to show some potential as a route runner and pass catcher in workouts for teams to take him early. He most likely projects as a mid second day pick that will have to perform on special teams while he develops as a receiver.
