Malcolm Jenkins CB 6 204 Ohio St. 4.55

By: Robert Davis

As a freshman in 2005, Jenkins worked his way into the corner rotation, finishing the year with 37 tackles. He became a starter a year later, earning All Big 10 honors after posting a career high 55 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and four interceptions for the season. Last year, Jenkins had 47 tackles, five for loss, and four picks while earning various All America honors, and earning his second All Big 10 1st selection. Jenkins closed out his career winning the Thorpe Award while tallying 54 tackles, 3.5 for loss, one sack and three interceptions.

Strengths

Jenkins has as talented as they come as a corner. He has excellent size, athleticism, and good speed. His size, strength, and aggressiveness make him a force against the run. His natural athleticism and speed make him a special prospect. He shows the ability to turn and run with just about any receiver in the country. With all his physical skills, toughness, and ball skills youre looking at a potential shut down corner in the NFL.

Weaknesses

Jenkins is so talented and has a lot of experience, so it is tough to really tear apart his game. The only real question would be his ability to cover smaller, quicker receivers and chase them down the field. He has good speed but isnt a burner and could have problems when faced off against those types.

Future

Jenkins and his college teammate James Laurinaitis both returned to school, turning down millions to be first round picks last April. Jenkins entered the year as the top corner in the draft, and nothing has changed. He still ranks as the top corner in the draft but some have questions after his combine performance, solely because of his 40 time. Jenkins disappointed by only running a 4.55 time, but was excellent in positions drills and in cone drills. He displayed the quickness and change of direction ability to remain at corner, and have a great career. That 40 time has pushed him out of the top five, but that wont hinder his game at the next level. He still has pro bowl ability and potential and will make some team between picks six and 15 very happy.
