Watkins was a reserve tackle as a sophomore in 2006, but managed to start two games at tight end. He started every game at left tackle as a junior, and right tackle as a senior.
Strengths
Watkins has played both left and right tackle in college and could project to either side in the NFL. He has a great tackle frame and standout athleticism. He has excellent mobility and has no problem moving his feet and shuffling laterally in pass protection. Watkins has extremely long arms and it helps him keep defenders from getting into his chest and tossing him around. His size and athleticism combination give him tremendous upside in the NFL.
Weaknesses
Watkins has had some issues of playing every snap with the same urgency level. He takes too many plays off and will need to show he is determined to win each snap versus his man. He also lacks the power to drive defenders off the ball, so he will need to get stronger to fit most teams needs as a right tackle. \
Future
Jason Watkins is a talented offensive lineman but his play hasnt always matched that talent. He had an impressive week at the Senior Bowl and if he can continue to play with some nastiness, he could be a very successful pro. It is all about how much Watkins wants it. That will determine how successful he is in the NFL.
