Eric Wood C 6'4 310 Louisville 5.23

By: Robert Davis

Wood is as steady as they come. He was the Cardinals starting center as a freshman, earning Frosh All America honors that year, and not letting go of the job since then. He has started 37 straight games entering his senior season, and has earned All Big East honors each of the past three seasons. Wood is as steady as they come. Strengths

Eric Wood will do whatever it takes to put a body on his man and finish the block. He has the type of attitude and toughness you want in an interior lineman. He will scratch and claw bigger, more physical lineman and will get out and pull and put a hat on quicker, more athletic guys even if he cant match up with them. Wood shows some pop at the point of attack and can control his man once he gets his hands on him. He gets out to the perimeter quickly and will find a man to block until the whistle blows. Wood just finds a way to make the block and comes back to the huddle ready for the next snap every single week.

Weaknesses

Wood lacks the ideal physical ability for the next level. He does not show a great deal of power at the point of attack, and will not push defenders off the line of scrimmage. He also is a marginal athlete that has trouble changing direction and adjusting to his mans moves to the ball carrier.

Future

Eric Wood may not match up physically with some of the other center prospects but he has been just as effective at the college level. He always seems to pick up his assignment and do the job even if it is a poor match up for him. His toughness, durability, and willingness to take on any challenge is something that will help him find a home in the NFL. Wood has impressed scouts over the years, and then he had a solid performance at the combine, showcasing a surprising blend of power(30 reps on the bench), explosion(30.5 inch vertical), and agility(7.56 3-cone). Alex Mack and Max Unger are the top two centers available, but Wood could go as high as anyone else after them at the C position.
