Francies college career began at American River College in California, and he earned All American honors before heading to Oregon St. In 2006. He had 39 tackles, 4.5 for loss, two sacks, and a pick for the Beavers as a junior, but he was arrested and eventually kicked off the team, resulting in a transfer to San Jose St. He redshirted his transfer year, and was ready to make an impact as a senior in 2008 for the Spartans, and he took full advantage. Francies had 69 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and two picks on the year.
Strengths
Francies is a very good cover corner. He is a great athlete, that is smooth in and out of his breaks, and can mirror receivers throughout their routes. He is also a legit 6' tall giving him excellent height for a cover corner. He is aggressive and not afraid to get physical on the field. He will jam receivers at the line and will come up in run support. He even has experience on special teams, returning both kicks and punts at the junior college level and D1 level.
Weaknesses
Francies has a thin build, and must get stronger. Hes going to have problems matching up with stronger receivers in the NFL. The biggest issue facing Francies will be the off field incident that caused his dismissal from Oregon St. He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and the chargers were eventually dropped, but teams are still going to put a great deal of effort to dig into that issue and Francies will have a lot of questionst to answer.
Future
Francies has the tools to be a successful NFL corner and a second round pick. He had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl, and did not do anything to hurt his stock at the combine. He actually impressed many with 24 reps in the bench press, showing he has more upper body strength than expected. The real issue with his draft status is how much teams believe he has matured since his off the field issues earlier in his college career. If teams are confident it is a thing of the past, he could go in that second round range, but wherever he lands, he has the skills to be a very good NFL corner.
