Chase Daniel QB 6 218 Missouri 4.92

By: Robert Davis

Daniel impressed the coaches enough as a true freshman to earn the backup job to Brad Smith at the start of the season. He finished the year completing just under 58% of his passes for 347 yards and one touchdown, with two interceptions. He took over as a sophomore and had a huge season. Daniel threw for 3,527 yards while completing 63% passes for 28 touchdowns and ten interceptions. He also ran for 379 yards and four TDs. Daniels junior year was even better. He threw for an amazing 4,306 yards and 33 touchdowns(11 picks) and completed his passes at a 68% clip. Daniel accounted for another 289 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Big things were expected during his senior season, and although the team did not contend for a title as they hoped, Daniel had another standout season. He threw for 4,135 yards with a 37/15 TD to INT ratio, while completing an amazing 74% of his passes.

Strengths

Daniel has proven over the years to be one of the most efficient quarterbacks around. He is extremely accurate and has an impressive TD to INT ratio, especially considering the amount of passes he has thrown. He is a very good athlete that shows the ability to elude the rush and make things happen outside the pocket when the play breaks down. Daniel possesses all the intangibles and leadership qualities you could want in a QB. He has an excellent work ethic, and brings the best out of his teammates. He is tough, willing to take hits and is always trying to make things happen.

Weaknesses

From a physical perspective, Daniel is lacking. He is short, which could give him problems seeing the field and delivering the football from the pocket. He also lacks the arm to throw the ball down the field vertically. The Missouri offense has him operating out of the shotgun on every snap, so he will have to work on taking the ball from the center and dropping back while surveying the action.

Future

Chase Daniel will end his college career as one of the most prolific passers in college football history, but he is not the pro prospect his press clippings indicate. You never want to underestimate a player that has the heart and toughness Daniel has, but you cannot overlook his lack of ideal physical tools either. If Daniel lands in the right system, his mobility and accuracy could allow him to overcome his shortcomings. He is the type of player that could surprise on day two in the right situation.
