Thomas Williams has been Mr. Versatile for USC. He has played inside and outside linebacker, strong safety, and fullback during his career. After a being a reserve as a freshmen, he started eight games as a sophomore, and had 24 tackles, four for loss, and a sack. He missed three games and a part of another because of a knee injury. As a junior, he had 18 tackles, 1.5 for loss, a sack, and an interception despite moving to fullback and helping out there due to injuries at the position. As a senior, he was a linebacker full time and started at times due to injury. He finished the year with his best season to date, closing out the year with 50 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and an interception.
Williams is a player with a lot of talent that has gotten lost in the shuffle at USC with all the talent they have at linebacker. He is intense, and really lays the wood on the football field. Williams is also a good athlete with the speed to close on the ball carrier. He brings a lot of versatility to the field. He has experience both inside and out, and has spent some time at safety in practice for the team. Hes been used as a lead blocker as a fullback, and with more work, could project to that position at the next level. He is also a very good special teamer.
With all the talent at USC, Williams hasnt gotten the chance to make a name for himself. Bouncing around also has left him with some work to do at linebacker. Although has some athleticism and speed, he can get turned around in coverage and is at his best moving forward. He also may only have average size. He doesnt appear to be as big as his listed size.
Williams intensity and talent will allow him to make a roster in the NFL. He has the talent to develop with time, the versatility to play multiple positions, and is a very good special teamer.
