Larsen had an excellent freshman season in which he posted 41 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and two sacks. After that season, he left for two years on a mormon mission. He returned in 2005 and shook off the rust, finishing the season with 51 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and a sack. It all came together last year for Larsen, as he developed into a standout that finished the year with 89 tackles, 10.5 for loss, and two sacks. He went out on top this year, finishing with his best season yet. Larsen had 131 tackles, 15.5 for loss, four sacks, and an interception.
Larsen has the ideal linebacker mentality. He is tough, aggressive, and loves to hit people. His motor runs non stop, and he is always looking for someone to hit. He has excellent instincts in the running game, quickly reading the play and flowing to the action. There are no false steps in his game he reads and reacts very quickly and is always around the football. Larsen also shows the instincts to drop back into coverage and make plays.
Going on the two year mission has made Larsen a little older than your typical draft prospect. Physically speaking, his size is only average and he can be engulfed by bigger blockers and taken out of plays. In coverage, he shows the awareness, but may lack the athleticism or speed to routinely make plays.
Larsen is a solid prospect that could surprise in the NFL. He does not have the triangle numbers to blow people away, but he has the instincts and toughness to make an impact in the NFL.
