McCullough started his career as a South Florida Bull but left because he wanted more playing time. In 2005 with the Bulls, he had 40 tackles, six for loss, and a sack but wanted a starting job. So he transferred to B-CU and earned his starting job as a junior. He had 73 tackles, 7.5 for loss, and 2.5 sacks in 2006. McCullough had a huge senior year, finishing the year with 149 tackles, 20 for loss, and five sacks on the year.
McCullough has fantastic instincts and is always around the action. He quickly diagnoses the action and aggressively attacks the ball carrier. He is very good at seeing the action in front of him and making the tackle. He is tough and willing to step inside the tackles and plug the run. He has the quickness the side step blockers and close in on the action.
Size is the big issue with McCullough. He lacks ideal height and bulk for the position and can be overpowered at the point of attack. He is strong but simply lacks the bulk to hold up against massive lineman.
McCullough has the intelligence and heart to make it in the NFL. He will only fit in certain schemes and will need protection in front of him but he is too good of a football player to not find a home somewhere. He could make an impact on special teams right away and eventually become a contributor at linebacker.
