New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Quintin Demps S 6' 206 UTEP 4.38

By: Robert Davis

Demps made an immediate impact for the Miners, picking off two passes to go along with 58 tackles on his way to Freshman All America honors in 2004. As a sophomore, he had a career high 78 tackles and three interceptions. Demps had 67 tackles and a career high seven picks as a junior. He closed out his career with another fine season, finishing with 72 tackles and five interceptions.

Demps is a solid cover safety. He has decent size for the free safety position and is a good athlete. His ball skills are top notch. He is very good at reading the action and getting to the action. Demps has the speed to cover a lot of ground and make a lot of plays in deep coverage.

Demps does not offer much in run support. His prefers to stay back in coverage, and lacks the strength to make a different at the line of scrimmage.

Demps lack of an all around game may limit his upside in the NFL. He could be a standout playmaker in coverage, but most teams want some physicality from their safeties. For a team in need of a boost to their free safety position, Demps is a solid mid round option.
