Hawkins originally signed with LSU out of high school, but ended up at City College of San Francisco instead, and decided on the Bears a year later. In his first season with the Bears in 2005, he only had 18 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown. As a junior last season though, he had a big year finishing with 46 receptions for 705 yards and five touchdowns. Hawkins led the Bears in receiving this year, hauling in 69 passes for 855 yards and five touchdowns. He also averaged 22 yards per kick return, returning one for a touchdown.
Hawkins is in the mold of the other two Cal receiver prospects: quick and a threat to make the big play at any time. He is a very good athlete, with the speed and quickness to consistently be a threat to make big plays. If he is given any room, he can hit the seam and turn it into a big chunk of yardage.
Despite playing in DeSean Jacksons shadow, he has had some success but may only be a slot receiver at the next level. He has only average size and can be overmatched by bigger, physical corners.
Hawkins is actually the biggest of the Cal receiver prospects, but his size is only average overall. He had a huge year, and actually led the team in receiving despite DeSean Jackson getting all the press. He is a playmaker that could thrive out of the slot, and could be a solid option in the third or fourth round.
