New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Carl Stewart FB 6'1 230 Auburn 4.69

By: Robert Davis

Stewart ran for 184 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman, while catching six passes for 99 yards. He ran for 151 yards and two TDs a year later, adding six catches for 60 yards out of the backfield. As a junior, Stewart ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns to go along with 13 receptions for 239 yards and two touchdowns. For the fourth consecutive season, his rushing totals dipped while his receiving numbers improved. He had 49 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and 14 catches for 214 yards as a receiver.

Stewart is very athletic for a fullback. He shows good quickness and speed for a fullback, and should be a solid weapon from the FB position. He has shown to be a decent runner, showing the quickness to get to the hole, and the speed to hit the corner on occasion. His receiving skills have continued to improve and he could be a real threat out of the backfield.

Stewart plays more like a running back than a fullback. He shows some effort as a blocker but is not strong enough to be a lead blocker. He needs to put his head down more to pick up tough yards as a runner too, because he is not going to be a consistent perimeter rushing threat.

Stewart is a solid fullback for a team that likes to throw to their fullback. He probably will not be a great short yardage back, and will never be a lead blocker. His ability to make plays as a receiver could make him a decent spot player in the league.
