New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Cameron Colvin WR 63 210 Oregon

By: Robert Davis

Colvin came to Oregon as one of the most celebrated recruits in the country. Up to this point, he has not lived up to expectations. He had just 14 catches for 191 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman. As a sophomore, he improved to 22/332/3 on the season. As a junior, his numbers dropped to just 18 receptions for 121 yards, although hamstring and groin injuries limited him over the course of the season. Injuries again derailed his season in 2007. Colvin caught 20 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns in five games before his season ended with an ankle injury.

Colvin has a sturdy frame, and has the talent to be a very good possession receiver. He is tough and willing to go over the middle to make the tough catch. He also has the athleticism to go up and get the football with defenders around him. Colvin has always been praised for his hard work, and is a player that will always work hard to help his team.

The production has never matched the talent with Colvin. That could be because of the inconsistency at quarterback for the Ducks up until this season, but he still has to prove himself on the field. Injuries have also played a role, so his durability is a concern as well. He also may lack the deep speed to be anything more than a complimentary receiver at the next level.

Colvin has a lot of talent but never put it all together on the field. Injuries have slowed him down throughout his career. Just when it looked like he was about to take off after hauling in 15 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns in victories against Cal and Stanford, he broke his ankle and missed the rest of the year. He may never be a standout playmaker, but he has the hands, athleticism, and size to make an impact in the NFL.
