Williams redshirted during the 2004 season, but made a big impact a year later. He had 58 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and a pick in 2005. As a sophomore, he had 52 tackles and a career high six interceptions. As a junior in 2006, he had 75 tackles and five picks on the season, earning All MEAC 1st team honors. Williams did not disappoint as a senior, closing out his career with 77 tackles and two picks.
Williams has made a name for himself with his all around ability from the safety position. He has been a star at free safety but projects better to the strong side. He is tough and willing to attack the line of scrimmage in run support. He has shown the ability to make receivers think twice about crossing the middle with some of his big hits. Williams has also shown impressive ball skills in coverage. He has 15 career interceptions and is excellent at locating the ball while it is in the air and going up and making a play on it.
Williams projects better to the strong side because he lacks the athleticism and speed to match up at free safety. He can be beaten deep and lacks the change of direction skill to match up on a consistent basis with receivers when matched up in coverage.
Williams has been one of the better safeties in the NSF division and has some talent to develop in the NFL. He could be a very good special teamer and develop at strong safety. He is always around the action and knows how to find the football. Those traits cant be overlooked and he is a player on Day Two that could surprise.
