Moffitt earned a starting job during his freshman season, but finished the year with just 23 tackles, three of them for loss. The next two seasons have been outstanding though. He had 96 tackles, 15 for loss, and 2.5 sacks as a sophomore. Last year as a junior, Moffitt had 112 tackles, 11 for loss, and four sacks. He closed out his Bull career with 100 tackles, 12 for loss and four interceptions on the year, one of which he returned for a touchdown.
Moffitt is an extremely tough and intelligent linebacker. He throws his body around the field, making plays all over the field. He has excellent instincts, quickly diagnosing the play and flowing to the action. He has a nose for the football and is always around the play. He is at his best seeing things in front of him and closing on the ball carrier, but he has the instincts in coverage to make a difference in that area as well. He is the leader of a talented defense, and is always elevating the level of his teammates play.
Moffitt may lack the overall athleticism to be a standout playmaker in the NFL. He may have problems matching up in coverage because he does not change directions well and loses ground when asked to cover.
Moffitt has the instincts and toughness to play in the NFL. His instincts allow him to get to the action quicker that his athleticism and speed indicate, but that lack of standout athleticism may limit his upside in the NFL. He is a very good prospect though, that should develop into a quality NFL linebacker.
