Bain signed with Miami out of high school, but failed to crack the rotation in three years there and left for Hampton before his junior season. He provided an immediate impact for the Pirates, as he earned 1st team All MEAC honors last year with 28 tackles, one interception, and 13 passes defensed in nine games. As a senior, he again earned All MEAC honors finishing with 19 tackles, 1.5 for loss and five picks on the year. Bain also competes for the 4x100m relay team for Hampton, and competed in numerous track events for the Hurricanes.
There is not any tool that Bain does not possess physically. He is a very good athlete, and has the quickness and agility to change direction and the speed to shadow receivers down the field. Bain also shows a nose for the football, displaying the ability to pick the ball up while it is in the air and make a play on it. He has a lot of upside at the next level.
The big knock on Bain is the level he plays at. He had the talent to sign with Miami, but never made an impact on the field there. Hes been able to rely on his athletic gifts to make plays at Hampton. He will also have to get stronger and be more physical with receivers in the NFL. He needs to show more willingness and intensity in stopping the run.
Travarous Bain is an intriguing prospect. He has all the talent to become a very good NFL corner, but will need time to develop his skills. He has some experience returning kicks at Hampton, and that may help him earn a roster spot while he develops his talent at corner. He had a good showing at the combine, and could hear his name called as early as the third round.
