New Free Agency Winners and Losers

Michael Johnson S 6'3 205 Arizona 4.66

By: Robert Davis

Johnson was a star at Tyler(TX) Junior College, earning JuCo All American honors before transferring to Arizona. As a junior in his first season with the Wildcats, he had 60 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and four picks on the year. This year he was dinged up a bit and missed two games, but still had 47 tackles and a pick.

Michael Johnson is a nice looking safety prospect with a lot of upside. He is a solid all around safety, with the ability to make plays all over the field. He has nice size, and is willing to attack the line of scrimmage to support the run. Williams is also a very good athlete, and shows the ability to cover a lot of ground in coverage and make plays.

Johnson is still a work in progress. He doesnt always impact the game the way his talent says he should. He needs to be more consistent on a down to down basis, and become more disciplined on the field. He is too aggressive at times and takes himself out of plays. He is also on the lean side, and could use a few more pounds.

This years safety class has some true elite talents at the top of the draft in LaRon Landry, Reggie Nelson, and Michael Griffin. After those three however, the safeties could go in any order. Johnson has a lot of talent and upside. He probably carries an early Day Two grade because of his potential.
